RV Rentals near Swannanoa, North Carolina

Swannanoa sits about 11 miles east of Asheville off I 40. The valley took the worst of the 2024 flooding and is still rebuilding two years on.

Camping in the Swannanoa valley

One campground in Swannanoa is confirmed open and one is confirmed closed, so read this section rather than booking from an old listing.

The first of these is in Swannanoa. The rest sit further out and are labelled with their real location.

Asheville East KOA Holiday: 2708 Highway 70 East, the one campground with a Swannanoa address that is confirmed open. Full hookups on 50 amp service and takes rigs up to 70 feet. Its own site notes that the lakes remain closed for repairs after Helene.

Asheville Bear Creek RV Park: Asheville, at 81 South Bear Creek Road, on the far side of the city. Full hookups on 30 and 50 amp service with pull throughs at 25 by 60 feet, no age restriction and open all year.

Curtis Creek Campground: In the Pisgah National Forest near Old Fort, east of the valley. Open for the 2026 season from the end of March, with no hookups, no restrooms and no drinking water, so it suits a self contained trip only.

Lake Powhatan Recreation Area: In the Pisgah National Forest on the western edge of Asheville. Standard pitches at 37 dollars, electric at 46 and full hookups at 52. Booking runs through Recreation gov.

Best things to see and do in Swannanoa

There is no pretending about Swannanoa. The river rose through the middle of this valley in 2024 and the recovery is the town's present reality rather than a footnote to it. Warren Wilson College and Grovemont Park are open and the community is very much here, but the list below reaches into Black Mountain and Asheville because Swannanoa itself has fewer visitor sites open than it once did.

Warren Wilson College - the campus and its public River Trail
Grovemont Park - the community park on Stonewall Avenue, open daily
Lake Tomahawk Park - the lake loop, five minutes on in Black Mountain
Swannanoa Valley Museum - valley history, over in Black Mountain
Blue Ridge Parkway - the ridge road, open on the Asheville sections

Picking an RV for a Swannanoa stay

The practical answer here is shaped by there being one open campground in the valley. A Class C motorhome fits the KOA comfortably and handles the I 40 run into Asheville. A Class B motorhome is the easiest thing to park if you plan to spend your days in town rather than at the pitch. A Class A motorhome suits a longer stay in one spot. The large bunkhouse travel trailer gives a family separate berths on a week long visit. Delivery across Western North Carolina is available with setup handled for you. Availability depends on the individual RV and your travel dates, and pricing varies by RV class, season and rental length. View available RVs or Contact the Asheville Camper Rentals team.
